Yes, very much so.
What we have been up to
Right now the focus is on bringing bitknives into the game. Bitknives are real hand forged unique knives created by Raptoreums Cryptosmith, who is an exceptionally talented Bladesmith. Each bitknife is a physical blade which is also 3d scanned and an exact virtual replica is created. Here is an example of one of the knives called "Raptoshi":
Here is the sample of the virtual replica:
Virtual replicas are provided in .obj for import into game engines such as Unreal and Unity. This allows bitknife owners to not only wield the physical blade but bring the virtual replica into games.
Why do this?
Many reasons! Here are a few;
1.) Trust vs Trustless: An items worth in-game is largely based on perceived rarity, lets say for example a Drac bow of +16 on a low rate server is probably going to be pretty rare, but nobody really knows how rare. Nobody knows how many exist or if more are "created". If the server admin provides this information it comes from a centralized database which they fully control and can modify at will. There is no tracking which shows for example if they have spawned themselves a +16 Drac bow to sell and pad their wallet. Blockchain integration can eliminate the need for that trust and show exactly how many of an item exist, if an item is destroyed, or an item was created. This information is publicly available, verifiable, and immutable, eliminating the need for trust and reliance on a centralized source.
2.) Physical to virtual, ownership verifiable: Owners of a bitknife will be sent a token (non fungible) by Cryptosmith for both the physical item and virtual replica. This token can not be forged, hacked, or destroyed in a fire. Ownership of the token verifies the owner is the legitimate owner of the items and this is easily verified by anybody or an APP such as a L2 server by checking the blockchain. The Blockchain is decentralized and tokens / transactions are added to blocks and approved through consensus. This makes it easy for a L2 server to verify ownership of an item.
3.) Cross Platform / Cross Company Item Transfer: Point two also makes it easy for cross platform and even cross business item transfers to happen which requires only the blockchain as an intermediary.
4.) Stopping item thefts: If a player has an item which has been tokenized (registered on chain) somebody cannot simply log into their game account and take the item. In order for the item to leave the players account the server needs to first see the corresponding transfer of the items token on the blockchain. This is only possible with access to the Raptoreum wallet which holds the token which would be encrypted and password protected.
The benefits and options are extensive, and it is my hope that Salty Dragon will help demonstrate how an integration like this can benefit companies, developers, and players. Nothing like being able to see it and use it easily in a highly visual and fun environment to demonstrate it.
Imagine
From your inventory in-game, you can select an item and register it on-chain (tokenize) in a couple of clicks, and near instantly you have the following benefits:
- Item cannot be hacked or stolen.
- Item becomes transferable cross platform and or to other games.
- You can verify to other people or players out of game that you own it.
- You can transfer the item to other players while not in the game.
- Item gives a special effect or look such as glow that only blockchain registered items can have.
- Know that you are one of the first in the world to tokenize an item in-game in this way!
- If you decide to sell it, get an accurate price based on known and provable rarity.
So, yes, we are still here and the project is progressing, stay tuned for more soon!
